Information Technology Program @ DUNY

In the DUNY IT program, we have four concentrations that follow our IT Core classes, including: 

  • Public Health Informatics and Technology (PHIT) – PHIT is a developing field that brings advances in data science to work towards improving public health for all. If you want to improve lives and have a passion for analyzing data and solving puzzles, PHIT is right for you!
  • Infrastructure — If you want to learn how to develop and support the information technology infrastructure that underpins businesses around the world, this concentration is for you. You’ll study things like help-desk management, technology hardware, network technology, and windows server management.
  • Application Development — If you want to learn how to build apps, games, or other kinds of software applications, this concentration is for you. You’ll study intermediate and advanced programming, and can choose to study mobile app development, programming for the internet, transact SQL programming, and applied software development.
  • Cybersecurity — This concentration will prepare you for one of the fastest growing sectors of information technology. Courses include forensic technology, ethical hacking, network security and more.

Courses

IX 302 Data Literacy

This course equips students with the essential knowledge and skills for effective data analysis and interpretation in healthcare and public health. They will understand the importance of accurate data for decision-making and improved patient outcomes. Students will explore health information systems and technologies used in healthcare settings, such as electronic health records and clinical decision support systems. They will learn about health information exchange systems and their role in secure data sharing. Students will also gain proficiency in using SQL to analyze public health data and develop data cleaning and preparation skills using Excel. Lastly, they will collaborate in interdisciplinary teams to tackle real-world data challenges in healthcare.

IX 240 Programming I: Python

This course provides basic to mid-level programming topics. It provides the students with a good understanding of how software is designed, developed and tested. Topics include the software development environment, functions, variables, IF statements, forms, input/output, loops, structures and class objects.

IX 235 Project Management

This course develops the competencies and skills for planning and managing complex projects. Students will study of the foundation, framework, and key components of project management, covering methods for managing project scope, project cost, project evaluation and review, and project communication. Students will examine the project management lifecycle, define project parameters, and identify management challenges. Effective project management tools, techniques, technologies will be explored.
